A 10-month-old baby has been pronounced dead after drowning in a basin full of water in Matungu, Kakamega County of Kenya.
According to Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the mother who is identified as Audrey Akumu, was said to have gone outside the house to do laundry when the incident happened.
Akumu, 25, cry attracting the attention of the residents who helped retrieved the body of the baby and rushed him to the hospital were the doctor pronounced him dead.

The DCI statement read;
“Suddenly, she realized that the baby had gone silent and turned back to see if he was okay, only to see him drowned inside a basin full of water.
“They rushed the baby to nearby Bliss Medical Centre where the baby was pronounced dead on arrival.”
The DCI further advised parents to keep an eye on their kids even when they are busy and also keep them away from water.
“We advise parents and guardians that it is never too late to save a child’s life, even if they stop breathing.
“Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) even if a child is unresponsive and do not stop until medical professionals take over.”
