A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Burutu local government area of Delta State, Chief Julius Tarabiri Government has distanced himself from any zoning conversations in Burutu Federal Constituency.
The revered chief stated this when he played host to members of the Burutu Credibility Front led by its Coordinator, Darlington Owan, in his Ughelli residence over the weekend.
The group’s spokesperson, Williams Welemu Ayoromiegha in his presentation, noted that “any arrangement with the opposition taking the lead is flawed particularly with regards to consulting with the power brokers of Burutu, who are members of the PDP.”

Ayoromiegha reiterated that there was never “a time any zoning discussions were made and it is entirely a new story within the ranks of the party.”
He called on leaders of the party to expel any distracting talks led by oppositions to maintain the peace the PDP has overtime exhibited in Burutu.
The Olotu of Tuomo Kingdom in his response, expressed excitement at seeing young people taking the lead in calling for peace and credibility within the PDP as well as in Burutu.
“Peace is a commendable journey and as such, I wish your peace throughout this your journey.
“Pursuing peace is good. Move to the leaders and preach peace. Go to the grassroots and preach peace. Only peace can lead to development,” he said.
On the calls for zoning the Burutu Federal Constituency seat, the Chairman Governing Council of Delta State School of Marine Technology said it is a joke taken too far.
He also pointed out that equity can only be demanded for by those with clean hands and clear consciences.
“There’s a group moving round made of political parties, and led by a member of the opposition party.
“Don’t take it too serious. Zoning is a good idea and if you’re talking of equity, it has to start from your home because you must come with clean hands.
“He who calls for equity must come with clean hands for the blemished hands cannot drive equity.
“Equity is good only when we all sit on a clean slate to agree on it and provided we abide by it.
“The timing is wrong. Elections are too close for that. The only alternative to unseat an incumbent is to vote them candidate out, and even that is dependent on the numbers.
Government stated that it will be a case of shooting one’s self on the foot if Ijaws, who have persistently insisted that there is no zoning arrangement in the State’s governorship seat ask for same in Burutu.
“We are calling for a no zoning arrangement at the state level. How can we come back home to instigate zoning? it is improper.
“I will not succumb to any talks on zoning at this point. Go to the field if you think you’re popular. I see it all as part of the political gimmicks though.”
The PDP stalwart also threw his weight behind the group’s plea for leaders of the party to demand two commissioner slots from the Delta State Government.
“Burutu is a federal constituency and has two state constituencies, hence, Burutu is deserving of two commissioners.
“Leaders have always made that a point of call in our meetings with the government. We are hopeful that the incoming dispensation will grant that request,” he added.
He further charged that all groups arguing for and against must do so with decorum, saying that there should be civility in all campaigns.
