Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, said on Monday that the Federal Government may consider a request to extradite suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, Abba Kyari, to the United States of America, USA, to face trial for his alleged involvement with an internet fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, popularly known as Hussipuppi.

Malami revealed that “reasonable grounds for suspicion” were established against DCP Kyari in the report of a police panel that investigated corruption allegations leveled against him by the FBI.

Despite the fact that the case has both national and international dimensions, the AGF stated that the FG would not rule out Kyari could be extradited to the United States or prosecuted in Nigeria.

“It is a work in progress, both nationally and internationally,” he said, adding that “we will ensure that justice is served regardless of the personalities involved.”

He emphasized that because the case involves multiple jurisdictions, including the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and Nigeria, collaborations would be required, with the country providing “the necessary support.”

“What I mean is that all hands are on deck, both locally and globally.”

Nigeria is indeed doing the necessary by supporting what America is doing in order to ensure that the cases are tried properly, within the context of the American aspect of it.

And, eventually, if local prosecution is required, nothing will stop it.

Malami went on to say, “There may be a need to make an extradition request.”

Parties are collaborating and discussing extradition and related issues through the exchange of correspondence.”

It will be remembered that DCP Kyari was indicted by the FBI in connection with the multi-million naira advanced fee fraud allegedly perpetrated by Hushpuppi.

The Nigerian Police Force had previously formed a panel to investigate Kyari, who was promptly suspended as the head of its Intelligence Response Team, IRT.
