Real Madrid star, Luka Modric has tagged Chelsea midfielder, Mateo Kovacic as a future Croatia captain.

Modric has named Kovacic as a key player and one who could be handed the Blazers’ captain armband.

The former Tottenham player revealed this ahead of Thomas Tuchel’s preparation for Club World Cup final.

Romelu Lukaku helped the Blues to secure a place in the final of the tournament following his single-goal victory on Wednesday’s semi-final clash against Al-Hilal.

Following his impressive display during the encounter, the former Real Madrid star was awarded man of the match award.

Undoubtedly, the 27-year-old will appear one of the first names on the club’s sheet for the final.

The current Champions League holders have never lifted the trophy as they were thrashed 1-0 by Corinthians in their first final at the International Stadium Yokohama on December 16, 2012.

Meanwhile, the club will now be eager to win it for the first time in the coming weekend.

Chelsea will have to battle it out with Palmeiras who are the only side that stand in their way before the can lift the trophy.

Abel Ferreira’s men outdid Al Ahly following a 2-0 victory in the semi-final of the competition last Tuesday.

The ex-Inter Milan midfielder has become one of the Blues’ outstanding players this season and has become a huge favourite of Tuchel’s in the process.

He has won the award for Premier League Goal of the month of January following his long-range volley in Chelsea’s 2-2 against Liverpool.

The Tottenham legend, Modric has spent time together with Kovacic at Real Madrid as they have both also represented their country, Croatia.

Modric revealed via an interview with Marca: “My successor in Croatia or the most talented player, I think, is Mateo Kovacic.”

“He is already a made player. He has played for important clubs like Inter Milan, Real Madrid, now he is at Chelsea doing things very well and that’s why let’s say that he is one of the successors, he can be the leader of the next Croatia.”
