UNIBEN student, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa died from after effect of an alleged gang rape in the church.
A student of the prestigious University of Benin, Edo state code named UNIBEN has reportedly died following an alleged gang rape inside a Redeemed Christian Church of God in the ancient Benin City.
The female UNIBEN student, who was identified as Uwaila Vera Omozuwa is said to have been attacked and suffered an alleged gang rape in the hands of her attackers who are still on the run.
The devastating incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, May 27, which was Nigeria’s Children Day.

Uwa, who was a 100-level student of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Benin, had gone out to read in the church premises where she thought she would take refuge.
The deceased was severely struck with a fire extinguisher in the head by her attackers inside the church located at Edo Province 10, Ikpoba Hill, Benin after they all took turns to repeatedly abuse her sexually.
A close family member while speaking to newsmen, revealed that the Uwaila died late on Saturday at the prestigious University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, where she was being treated after the attack.
Narrating the deceased story, the family member who spoke under anonymity stated that the security officer of the church met Uwaila in the pool of her own blood when he resumed duty on Wednesday night.
The security officer had gone to pick up the church’s keys from the keeper when he was told that someone was already in the church.
She was lying close to the fire extinguisher which appeared to have been used to smash her face.
He quickly dashed back and informed the key keeper alongside the wife of his sight.
As at the time they got back to the church, they presumed Uwaila was dead as she lay motionless on the floor.
However, the deceased moved her hand after a while, causing them to rush her to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
Uwaila narrated her ordeal at the hospital, revealing that she was reading in the church when her assailants attacked her, beat her up, raped her, and also bashed her head with the fire extinguisher.
She died on Saturday night at the hospital, four days after her attack.
Uwaila’s death did cause a heavy outrage on social media on Sunday, with reactions condemning the act.
General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries, Pastor Johnson Suleiman also took to his official Twitter account to condemn the attack on the 22-year-old.
The management of the University of Benin also poured in their condolences while condemning the attack.
Meanwhile, Governor Godwin Obaseki has ordered the Police to thoroughly investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Uwaila Omozuwa.
He charged the law enforcement agents to identify, arrest, and prosecute anyone found to be culpable in her death.
