HURIWA, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, has applauded the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, for declaring DCP Abba Kyari wanted.

HURIWA stated that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Baba Usman Alkali, should arrest Abba Kyari immediately.

The civil society organization applauded the anti-drug agency, led by Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), for declaring the suspended Head of the Intelligence Response Team wanted for alleged drug trafficking links.

In a statement, HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, also called on the Inspector-General of Police to stop shielding Kyari and arrest him immediately.

At a press conference in Abuja on Monday, NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi detailed how Kyari was a member of a drug cartel that operates the Brazil-Ethiopia-Nigeria illicit drug route.

And, in response, HURIWA recalled how Kyari was indicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States in 2021 for his alleged role in a $1 million scam allegedly perpetrated by an alleged international internet fraudster Ramon Abbas, aka, Hushpuppi, and five others.

The US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California had directed the FBI to arrest Kyari, but the IGP and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), have steadfastly refused to do so.

Now that the NDLEA has declared Kyari wanted for drug trafficking offenses in the face of glaring and incontrovertible evidence as stated by a statutory law enforcement institution, HURIWA commented, “the IGP has no excuse but to immediately arrest the cop for prosecution by the NDLEA.”

If the mind-boggling allegations of NDLEA are to be believed, everything covered has been revealed on the rooftop.

“Truth is like light; any attempt to conceal it always fails if all things are equal and if the NDLEA’s prima facie evidential allegations are factually correct.”

Kyari’s employment with the Nigeria Police Service must also be terminated immediately by the Police Service Commission.

The officer who exposed Kyari should be promoted immediately by the NDLEA.

HURIWA applauds the officer for standing up for the truth and refusing to compromise in the face of an alleged enticing offer from suspected fronts attempting to cover up for the accused police officer Alhaji Kyari.

Security personnel must also keep in mind that nothing should happen to the NDLEA officer. From now on, he or she must be given the utmost protection.

“The NDLEA has begun a fearless job; it must not be intimidated or cowered by powers that be who obviously want to avoid the process of justice.”

The NDLEA must be firm and unwavering; it must not abandon its discovery.”

The agency must work hard to ensure the prosecution of Kyari and everyone else involved, regardless of their social standing.

There must be no holy cows in this regard Anything to the contrary is a mockery of President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war.
