One person has been reported dead, while two others have been injured following a clash between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and smugglers in Ogun State.
The encounter, which happened on Ayetoro road, near Abeokuta, on Saturday, February 12, claimed the life of a man identified as Abdulrosheed Dada, leaving two other suspected smugglers injured.

According to reports, the NCS were said to have intercepted some bags of foreign rice smuggled into the country through the Republic of Benin into Abeokuta.
The smugglers were reported to have also engaged the customs officers when they attempted to seize the contraband goods.

Speaking to newsmen, a source said;
“Abdulrosheed had gone to Abeokuta for a party before he was called by some friends, whose goods have been intercepted by customs officers,”
“By the time he got there, the issue has turned chaotic and the officers started shooting. The officers opened fire on them. Dada died, while two others sustained gunshot injuries.” the source said.
Reacting to this, the spokesperson of the Ogun Area 1 command of the NCS, Ahmed Oloyede, and the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Operating Unit (FUO), Theophilus Duniya, denied any knowledge of the incident.
