Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has approved the immediate implementation of a N30,000 minimum wage for the state’s workforce, with some consequential adjustments.

The agreement applies to both the state and local government workforces.

(Dr.) Mrs. Folashade Ayoade, Secretary to the Kogi State Government, made the announcement following a lengthy meeting with the Organised Labour in Lokoja on Tuesday.

Mrs. Ayoade stated that the implementation was delayed due to the Committee’s inability to meet on a regular basis following the COVID-19 pandemic, which she stressed had been overcome.

She praised Organized Labor for their patience and understanding thus far, which resulted in the signing of the new minimum wage implementation agreement.

Chief Edward Onoja, the State Deputy Governor, thanked the Organized Labour for their patience and commitment to reaching an amicable agreement without resorting to strike action.

Chief Onoja stated that Governor Yahaya Bello is concerned about the welfare of civil servants and will continue to prioritize its workforce.

Hannah Odiyo, the Head of the State Civil Service, stated that with the signing of the agreement on the new national minimum wage, the committee’s work was completed peacefully and without the need for industrial action.

Onuh Edoka, State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, said after signing the agreement for the implementation of the new national minimum wage, that Kogi State civil servants have been brought to the same level as their counterparts.

“The earlier notice of strike served on the State Government has been suspended with immediate effect,” he said.

We applauded the State Government for signing the agreement with the mandate of immediate implementation in order to give the State’s civil servants a new lease on life.

We assured civil servants of the current administration’s commitment to effective productivity in all sectors of the economy.”

Ranti Ojo, State Chairman of the Trade Union Congress; Adeiza Momoh-Jimoh, State Chairman of the NUJ; and Tade Adeyemi, Chairman of NULGE, were among those present at the signing of the agreement.
