Deputy Governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu has said that the Super Eagles have the materials to beat Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup African Qualifying game on the 23rd of March.

The Nigerian senior football team were crashed out of the last Africa Cup Of Nations following a 1-0 defeat to Tunisia at the round of 16.

The Nigerian representatives will however, succeed in putting the disappointment behind them if they could win Black Stars in the qualifying game.

The 52-year-old held that Nigeria team is strong enough to defeat Ghana in both legs provided the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF assists in giving the team enough preparation.

The alumnus of University of Jos admonish the Federation to mantain the relationship between Coach Austin Eguavoen and his assistant, Emmanuel Amuneke, to avert any clash that could frustrate Nigeria’s dreams.

Last weekend, Shaibu while speaking in Lagos revealed that Nigeria is blessed with gifted coaches who can manage the team successfully.

That said, the Deputy Governor advised the Nigeria’s football governing body to desist from appointing foreign managers.

He also added that it will take a non-native coach a couple of years before he can learn about the mentality of the Super Eagles.

Shaibu said: “When I heard that Eguavoen would continue as Super Eagles’ interim coach with Amuneke added as his assistant, I celebrated because they are good coaches.”

“However, I thought Eguavoen should have been given the Super Eagles’ job, while Amuneke gets another team. But since they are now to work together, the jobs should be spelt out so that there will be no issues that can derail Nigeria’s ambition of qualifying for the World Cup.”

He added: “If you saw Nigeria’s three matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, you will see marked improvement in the Super Eagles compared with what we were used to in the last dispensation.”

“What the coaches should do now is to review those matches and the game against Tunisia, to note where they did well and the mistakes they need to correct before the match against Ghana. I am sure they can beat Ghana home and away.”
