Court Remands Two Friends For Raping 20-year-old Woman

Musa Lamidi and Ogunwamide Gbemiro were remanded in a correctional facility on Wednesday by a Magistrates’ Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman.

Lamidi, 32, and Gbemiro, 25, whose addresses were not provided, were charged with conspiracy and rape.

Magistrate I. O. Osho, who refused to accept the suspects’ plea of lack of jurisdiction, directed the police to return the case file to the Oyo State Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

As a result, she adjourned the case until May 2 for further consideration.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the suspects committed the crime on July 14, 2020, at approximately 5.25 p.m., in the Odo-Oba area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

According to Adedosu, the offense violated sections 516 and 358 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
