Over 40 people were injured during feminist demonstrations in Mexico City on International Women’s Day, according to the city’s Ministry of Citizen Security on Wednesday.

More than 40 medical services were provided by the Rescue Squad and Medical Emergencies to people suffering from dehydration, heatstroke, and other conditions.

“Only eight people were transferred to hospitals, six of whom were police officers,” the ministry tweeted.

According to Marti Batrez, Secretary of the Government of Mexico City, 75,000 women took part in the march.

Extremist groups were present and engaged in vandalism during the march, they attempted to break through the cathedral’s fence during and after the protest.

The women police units in Mexico City keep the peace during women’s demonstrations.

The authorities try to minimize officer aggression, but clashes between protesters and police occur on a regular basis.

The march was held in response to the continued rise in reports of serious crimes against women.

According to Mexico’s Secretariat of Security and Civilian Protection, the number of cases involving the murder of women has increased by 235% in the last six years.

In 2021, 969 femicides were committed in the country.
