My Target Was To Take Super Eagles To Get To Atleast Quarter-final In The World Cup- Gernot Rohr | Daily Report Nigeria

Gernot Rohr, the former Super Eagles coach, revealed that his goal for Nigeria was to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

This was Rohr’s reaction to Nigeria’s 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff loss to Ghana on Tuesday, March 2.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, fired Rohr as Super Eagles head coach just weeks before the start of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cameroon.

On an interim basis, Augustine Eguavoen took over for the German. Eguavoen, on the other hand, resigned on Thursday, after Ghana defeated Nigeria in Abuja.

“Oh yes, there was a big disappointment after this match,” Rohr told Brila.net (on Tuesday).

“We had all the hope that Nigeria would qualify and believe that the better players are in Nigeria, not in Ghana.

“But sometimes the collective work of a team can be stronger than the individual strength of the other team.

“My target was to go to the World Cup in Qatar and to go at least to the quarter-final and to have a good image of Nigerian football like we had in the last five years.”
