After Six Months, Ghana Reopen 600 Nigerian Shops

A minimum of 600 shops and business offices belonging to Nigerian citizens resident in Ghana have been reopened by the Ghanaian government.

This is coming after six long months after the shops were forcefully closed down.

The shops belonging to Nigerians had been kept under lock and key since December 2919 as a result of a disagreement between traders in the markets.

President of the National Association of Nigerian Traders in Ghana, Dr Ken Ukaoha, made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja, during a solidarity visit to the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

According to the President, the visit was to commend Dabiri-Erewa for her “untiring and unrelenting efforts in resolving the lockdown of Nigerian shops in Ghana for over six months.”

Ukaoha further stated that the ECOWAS Protocol of Free Movement of Persons, Goods and Services should be purely be observed in the spirit of brotherhood and a diplomatic reciprocation.

On her part, the NIDCOM boss, Abike Dabiri-Erewa revealed that the commission’s intervention in seeking for the reopening of the shops was done at the highest level of diplomacy and bilateral relations between Ghana and Nigeria.

She further urged Nigerian traders in the Gold Coast to always adhere to the laws of their resident nation and also conduct themselves with dignity and respect.
