The Aladja/Ogbe-Ijaw Peace Vanguard has taken it’s drums of peace to the palaces of the monarch of Ogbe-Ijaw Warri Kingdom and Udu Kingdom, and other leaders, in pursuit of the total restoration of peace in Aladja and Ogbe-Ijaw communities.

The Peace Vanguard first visited the Pere of Ogbe-Ijaw Warri Kingdom, HRM Couple Mackson Oromoni, Mobene III, before proceeding to the palace of HRM Barr Bethel Delekpe Owhoru I, the Ovie of Udu Kingdom.

Speaking during the separate visits, convener of the group, Ambassador Enieghan Layefa, revealed that the visits were solely hinged on finding a possible and lasting solution to the age-long rivalry between the two communities over a land dispute that has painfully claimed many lives.

Enieghan, who sought for prayers from the monarchs to enable the group to achieve permanent peace, revealed that the group had erected billboards at strategic places such as Express Junction in Udu and NPA Waterside with the inscriptions “Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh Stop the Blood Bath, we are one.”

“We will erect more billboards in both communities to further echo our message, which is peace from both sides,” he stated.

He expressed bitterness over the lingering dispute between the two neighboring communities who are suffering from underdevelopment and have been further marginalized by the state government as a result of the crises.

He wondered what the need for war is when all concerned quarters will still go back to the dialogue table.

“Why kill ourselves and still come back to the table,” he asked.

“Our fathers fought this war, but I will do everything possible to make my children not to fight this war,” he promised.

Amb Layefa also revealed the group’s plans to take the drums of peace to the Delta State Government in order to facilitate and cement the peace process for both communities as soon as possible.

“We will go to Government House Asaba to force the government to do the needful. This will be after meeting with all stakeholders from both communities including the Local Government Chairmen of Udu and Warri South West Councils for the sake of peace ,” he said.

Let’s drop our guns – Mobene III

The Pere of Ogbe-Ijaw Warri Kingdom, HRM Couple Oromoni in admonishing the group, admitted that life is short and questioned the need for killing ourselves.

“We all are tenants on earth and someday we will go back to our creator and give account of ourselves, by then we won’t take even a piece of land with us. So why the BLOOD SHED?” He asked.

“We should drop our guns and if we must fight, we should fight for a Just Course for development and above all, for peace” he said.

“The future is not lost, hope is still very much alive. Peace Vanguard go and preach the gospel that war is not beneficial,” he advised.

Peace must be predicated on truth – Owhoru 1

In his response, HRM Barr Bethel Delekpe Owhoru I, the Ovie of Udu Kingdom quickly welcomed the peace initiative of the group and posited that peace must be predicated on the premise of truth.

He further charged the group not to relent in it’s efforts to restore peace back to the twin communities.

Also speaking when the group visited him at home, Chief Christian Whiliki JP, a respected Chief in Udu Kingdom, threw his weight behind the move, as he commended the group for taking the bold step to restore peace.

He asserted that he will also give everything possible to ensure that peace is restored in his lifetime.

We are tired of this war – youths lament

Youths of the twin communities of Aladja and Ogbe-Ijaw decried the lingering crises and called for a swift action from stakeholders of both communities to resolve to peace without further delay.

Youths of both communities at different times, lamented over the peace that has eluded them as a result of the war.

“We are tired of this war, give us peace,” one youth lamented.

Also, the President of Aladja Community, Elder Otto Ogbiruveta, keyed into the peace initiative of the group, advised the conveners and members to be very sincere in their quest for peace between the two Communities.

He asserted that God has already given the communities peace, and that peace must stay no matter what.

Other notable stakeholders who gave their blessings to the peace initiative include Chief Boro Pudu, Hon Friday Denghan, Hon Frank Omare, Double Chief Fred Ehibor and a host of other stakeholders from both communities.

Present at the visits were the Administrators of the group:
Amb Enieghan Layefa, Amb Ighotegwolor Bezi, Amb Akemotubo E. Victor, Amb Barr Solomon Aggreh, Amb Governor Stanley Warenanawei, Comr Bibo Ogbona, Etimadimene James and other members from both ommunities.

The Aladja/Ogbe-Ijaw Peace Vanguard has registered reasonable success in it’s pursuit of peace for both communities as large gatherings followed the visits.

Indigenes of both communities have been tagging along since the visit to the Ovie of Udu, as peace is gradually creeping back in sight for them.
