Caretaker managing the collapsed three-storey building in Ebute-Meta, has revealed that tenants were issued a quick notice after it was discovered that the structure was under distress.

The caretaker, who is a son to the owner of the property, however, said that the tenants occupying the property, refused to comply.

He started this while speaking to newsmen on Monday, noting that he was living in the building with other tenants when he noticed the distress.

Continuing, the caretaker said he moved out of the building and rented another apartment within the same vicinity.

Speaking under anonymity, he said, “I had to leave the building and rented an apartment in the same vicinity.”

According to the him, he had not collected rental fees from tenants in long time as he had asked them to pack out.

Daily Report Nigeria earlier reported that the building located at 24 Ibadan Street, off Herbert Macaulay Way, Ebute-Meta, collapsed on Sunday night.

The incident has led to the death of 8 occupants, while 23 persons have been rescued.

Also, @the LASEMA DG, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the building was dilapidated and had been sealed for demolition, but the occupants refused to evacuate the building.
