A bill sponsored by the representative of the Imo West-Senatorial District, Rochas Okorocha, seeking to extend free education to Senior Secondary Schools, has been passed at its first reading.
The bill which passed its first reading at the Senate seeked to extend the Federal Government’s compulsory and free education programme from the Junior Secondary School 3, to the Senior Secondary School 3.
Okorocha noted that the passage of the bill will allow all Nigerian children to access quality education up to the senior level.
According to Okorocha, the current free education policy only cover those from primary education to Junior Secondary School levels.
He described the proposed legislation tagged “Free Universal Education Act Amendement Bill”, as a people-oriented bill.
It is of hope that the bill will be given an accelerated hearing and subsequent assent by the executive.
