Nigeria’s Federal Government has debunked a report making rounds on the internet that it ordered the shutting down of ongoing Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) reality TV show.
The rumoured report quoted the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed to have directed the National Broadcasting Commission to shutdown the show over fears of the housemates spreading COVID-19 amongst themselves.

The report also quoted the Acting Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Armstrong Idachaba, to have informed other senior management members of the NBC in a meeting about the minister’s directives on Wednesday.

However, just two days after the report, the Federal Government has cleared the air on the alleged rumour of shutting down the BBNaija reality television show.
A report on accredited to Segun Adeyemi, the Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister of Information on AN24.neton Friday night states that Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari had no reason to stop the reality show.
According to the report, Adeyemi opined that if there was a reason for the federal government to shutdown BBNaija, it would not hesitate, but the order would have conveyed through a memo by the Minister of Information and Culture.
Mr Adeyemi totally dismissed the news of the alleged shutdown order accredited to the Federal Government as a “product of mischief.”
In a similar news, the Federal Government through the Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Special Duties, Femi Adesina also denied a report on the sack of the NDDC IMC and the appointment of a Sole Administrator.
