Tension emanated at the Abossey Okai spare parts market in Accra, Ghana, as Nigerian shops were locked up by their Ghanaian counterparts, Ghanian traders.

According to the Ghanian traders, they affirmed the prohibition of retail trade by foreigners, Nigerians inclusive, as obtainable from the country’s laws.

They also accused the Nigerians of selling substandard products at low prices, a business act which the Ghanians claimed it’s killing their businesses.

The Ghanian local traders claimed that Nigerians could afford the expensive prices charged by shop owners, a practice discouraging the local traders.

While Nigerians are infuriated over the incessant attacks and locking of shops, the leadership of the Nigerian Traders Association of Ghana has urged Nigerians to resist all attacks from the locals.

However, series of meetings have been ongoing between the MP for the area, Ebenezer Gilbert Nii Narh, the leadership of the traders union at the Abossey Okai, and the area Police Commander, to settle the differences.

No resolution have yet been made official from the meetings, as at the time of this report.
