Delta-based broadcaster, Michael Effiong, popularly known as Egbegba, has lamented the recent spate of terrorist attacks in the country.

Effiong, who particularly decried Sunday’s attack on the St Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, raised concerns that Christians could be forced to resort to self-defence or attack too.

He argued that the time for Christians to just pray as long past, as prayers will not save the country from the current insecurity bedevilling it.

Effiong urged the Nigerian government to borrow a leaf from countries from the West, who face the terrorism with full force.

In a post titled “Ondo Church Gun Shooting,” the media personality said;

“We in the media know how this thing will end. Nothing new. The government will tell you that they are in shock, mourning the dead, condole with the families of those affected, and it will end there.

“A few days ago the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) called for prayers and protest in their secretariats in reaction to the killing of Deborah Samuel by some Muslim extremists.

“What happened next? These extremists entered the streets in a rugged protest and attacked buildings and people because of the arrest of the suspected killers.

“Just a few days ago, these extremists killed a fellow Muslim for blasphemy. Burnt the man alive, that man could be anybody relative.

“Do you think prayers alone would stop these extremists? If your answer is yes, then you need a section in Warri General Hospital to check your mental state, and I will pay for it.

“There is madness in all of us, just that some of us have been controlling ours. Christians could go mad too, and Christians could attack too.

“Christians could shoot too. Christians aren’t weaklings. Don’t tell me to pray. I won’t pray. Americans, the UK, and others don’t fight terrorists by prayers alone, they retaliate by attacking with full force.”

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that AK-47 wielding gunmen invaded the St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, while mass was still ongoing.

Over 50 persons have been confirmed dead from the incident, while several others received varying degree of injuries.
