Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reacted to reports making the rounds that he has left the Peoples Democratic Party.

The 2023 presidential candidate was reported to have announced his departure from the PDP for the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

In a viral video shared on Wednesday, Governor Wike was seen analysing why a politician should jump ship from the PDP to the APC.

However, Wike in a short message on his official Facebook page on Wednesday evening, debunked the reports of joining the APC as false.

He noted that the video was an interview he granted to Arise TV sometime in 2021 that was doctored to hit up the polity.

He reiterated his loyalty to the PDP, saying he remains committed to the party.

“This interview from 2021 was manipulated to give the false impression that I am leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.

“I remain a committed member of the Peoples Democratic Party,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Wike is rumoured to be the leading candidate to emerge as running mate to the PDP presidential flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar.

Wike, who lost the party’s presidential ticket to Atiku, is believed to be the best candidate to be deputize for Atiku ahead of the 2023 elections.

According the PDP, a running mate to Atiku Abubakar would be announced when the Vice Presidential Screening Committee completes it’s task on Thursday, June 16.

Governors Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State are the two other names being considered for the role.
