Former Deputy Senate President of Nigeria, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, have been charged to court by authorities in UK.

Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55, and Ike Ekweremadu, 60, were remanded in custody on Thursday and will both appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the couple have been charged with conspiracy in taking a child to UK in a bid to harvest organs.

Charges were brought against the Nigerian politician and his wife after an investigation by the Specialist Crime team.

The force also said an investigation into the couple was launched after detectives were alerted of potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

The child has now been kept under safeguard, the Metropolitan Police said.
