Court Arraigns Woman For Shredding Sergeant’s Uniform in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 20-year-old woman, Sale Obanla, before a Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly assaulting a police sergeant.

The defendant is standing trial for a count of assault on the police sergeant.

Prosecutor for the Police, Sergeant Olubu Apata, revealed that Obanla “committed the offence on August 11 about 7:00 am at Odo Aremu in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.”

Sergeant Apata told the court that the accused allegedly assaulted a Police Sergeant, Ilesanmi Lawrence attached to Ado Central Division, Okesa, Ado-Ekiti, when she held him and tore his cloth, while executing his lawful duty.

Apata said, “The offence contravened Section 356(1) (2) (3) and (5) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.”

Sgt Apata further pleaded with the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

Meanwhile, the defendant, Sale Obanla pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her.

Counsel for the defendant, Mr Adebowale Adelusi, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.
