Lockdown: Offa Poly Fumigate Campuses Ahead of Resumption

In addition to the efforts already made by the management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa to combat the spread of coronavirus, the management led by Dr. Abddulateef Ademola Olatunji has supported the Dean of Schools to fumigate the polytechnic campuses ahead of resumption.

The fumigation process was carried out by the polytechnic’s scientists from Science Laboratory Technology Department in line with World Health Organization ( WHO) and Nigeria Center For Disease Control’s ( NCDC) guidelines.

Before the fumigation exercise, one of the scientists explained the preparation of the chemicals used for fumigation.He said, ” the preparation is in line with directives given by World Health Organization ( WHO) and Nigeria Center for Disease Control ( NCDC).

He added that the solutions are made up of mainly Sodium Hydrochloride and the preparation was done under strict science compliance.

“According to him, “The World Health Organization said the solution should be 5% Hydrogen Hydrochloride and in order not to be harmful to the people that will do the fumigation and the populace, we took it to the laboratory, we did necessary calculation and we arrived at appropriate concentration which is in line with World Health Organization and Nigeria Center for Disease Control’s directives.”

The Rector, Dr. Olatunji in his remarks said, “The war against Covid-19 is a collective responsibility and today, we are very proud of our institution because we have our preventive machines intact produced by Science Laboratory Technology and Mechanical Engineering Departments.

“We also have our ‘PPEs’ such as hand sanitizer, antiseptic disinfectant, liquid detergent and face masks produced by Science Technology Department and Entrepreneurship Development Centre and now, the Dean of Schools have taken up the responsibility to ensure fumigation and decontamination of our campuses for safety resumption.”

“It is obvious that the virus is not friendly with anyone; let’s continue to embrace all preventive measures as advised by World Health Organization (WHO) and Nigeria Center for Disease Control ( NCDC).”

While the tertiary institutions in Nigeria await the Federal Government’s directive for resumption, the two campuses of the Federal Polytechnic Offa are safe for both the internal and external publics.
