The Lionesses of Morocco on Monday night defeated the Super Falcons of Nigeria 5-4 on penalties to advance to the final of the ongoing Women African Cup of All Nations.

The encounter played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, the Morocco capital, dragged into extra time after both teams played out a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Morocco’s Mrabet volleyed the ball into her own net on 62nd minute following pressure from Kanu.

Attacking midfielder Mssoudy equalized for the Moroccans on 69th minute after the Nigerian goalkeeper parried the ball her way.

Super Falcons’ duo of Ayinde and Ajibade were sent off on the 48th and 71st respectively for offenses.

While the Super Falcons held on till the end of extra time, the Lionesses prevailed 5-4 on penalties after striker Onumonu missed her spot kick.

The win means the Lionesses will play in a WAFCON final for the first time against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa.

Nigeria on the other hand, will play out the third place play-off against the Zambia.
