Lagos has emerged the state with the highest registered voters going by the recently concluded Continuous Voters Registration, CVR

However, Ekiti topped the list of states with the lowest number of prospective voters with 1, 034,811 behind Bayelsa (1,367, 834), Yobe (1,518,327) and Gombe (1,613, 517).

Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded 1,556,197 prospective voters ahead of the 2023 general elections.

According to INEC, no fewer than 93,303,016 eligible voters are now on the voter register after the registration ended on Sunday July 31, 2022.

The chart also shows that the Northwest region recorded most registered voters with 22,672,373 ahead of the Southwest, which has 18, 332,191 registered voters.

The statistics on the INEC website also proved that a total of 6,224,866 women registered to vote, while 6,074,078 men participated in the exercise.

A total of 8,784,677 youths between the ages of 18 and 34 also registered to vote.

The middle age bracket of 35-49 gathered 2,430,709, while the elderly class (50-69 years), 956,017 and 70 and above, 127,541.

Meanwhile, an INEC official, who spoke under anonymity, said the commission already anticipated a surge in the voters registration exercise as a result of enlightenment and sensitisation programmes courtesy of INEC, political parties and civil society groups.

He noted that the total figures of 93,303,016 are not final, saying the voters register will be scrutinized and put through technical verification before validation.

He said: “The current figure may not be final. There will be a clean-up of the list to detect double registration.”
