Sani Yusuf, the Executive Secretary, Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has said at least 50 persons have been killed and over 8,000 people displaced by flood in the State.

In a statement he signed on Sunday, he noted that the flood also destroyed houses.

According to Yusuf, over 10,000 people were displaced from across the state and more casualties are expected as the rainstorm and flooding continue to wreak havoc.

He said some of the victims are from Balangu village adding that the State government had opened 11 temporary camps for the displaced persons.

He advised people in the State, especially those close to River bank, to relocate to a safer place as NiMet had predicted more flooding in some parts of the north, including Jigawa.
