The meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government has once again ended in deadlock.

The meeting which held on Tuesday in Abuja, ended with no concrete agreement between both parties.

This means the ongoing strike action by the lectures, which is in its sixth month, will continue.

The lecturers met with the Prof. Nimi Briggs Committee at the National University Commission in the capital city with high hopes of resolving the impasse.

However, a senior member of ASUU told newsmen that members of the Prof. Briggs negotiation committee did not come with any new offers.

Instead, the committee pleaded with the union to suspend the ongoing strike, promising that their concerns will be included in the 2023 budget.

The meeting, which started around 12pm, lasted for over three hours without any agreement reached.

Meanwhile, another meeting presided over by Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari held deep into the night without resolutions.

Gambari, who represented the President, is expected to present a report before the National Executive Council on Wednesday, for further deliberations.

Meanwhile, ASUU is expected to hold a NEC meeting towards finding a common ground with the government to call off the strike.
