Delta's Chief Judge Demands Quality Leadership From Youth Parliamentarians | Daily Report Nigeria

The Delta State Chief Judge, Justice Marshal Umukoro has challenged leadership of the Delta State Youth Parliament to uphold the virtues of integrity, probity and transparency in discharging their legislative functions.

Justice Marshal Umukoro gave the admonition when he played host to members of the first Delta State Youth Parliament, which was inaugurated on the 8th of September, 2020 in Asaba.

The number one Jurist in the State who commended the members for their wonderful performance in the first parliamentary session held, tasked the Youths to use their privileged position to imbue on the youths at community and local government levels the mores of society through orientation and sensitisation.

He impressed on them that they were privileged to be selected among over two million youths in the State, stressing: ” Now that you are a member of Youth Parliament what is the next step. Because the Youth Parliament is a training ground, it is part of your curriculum vitae, and a golden opportunity and a leadership position you now have. Do not misuse it; do not abuse it.”

The Chief Judge who commended Delta State Government and the State House of Assemble for keying into the establishment and inauguration of the Youth Parliament, advised youths, especially the ladies, to be sensitive to their dressing and grooming so as not to send wrong opinion in mind of the public, contrary to their good character.

The Speaker of the Delta State Youth Parliament, Rt. Honourable Dr. George Ohwoekevwe thanked the Chief Judge, Justice Marshal Umukoro for granting them audience, saying that they were in his office to solicit for his support, saying that the laws made by them could only be given effect through the judiciary.

The Speaker listed the functions of the Youth Parliament to include capacity building, parliamentary exchange and internship programmes.

Since her inauguration the Youth Parliament has moved motions on curbing cultism, youth violence, rape, establishment of National Diabetes branch in Delta State and sensitisation of flood prone areas by the Meteorological Agency, Dr. George Ohwoekevwe disclosed.

In a similar development, Justice Marshal Umukoro has restated his unwavering commitment to ameliorating the plight of widows.

The Chief Judge made the promise when the Godly Widows Intercessory Prayer Group paid him a courtesy visit to honour him with an award for his invaluable assistance to widows in the State.

Justice Umukoro stated that as a widower he quite appreciated their plight even as he encouraged them to be strong to be able to care for their children left behind by their husbands.

The Public Relations Officer of the Group, Amaka Eluamaka said that they decided to honour the Chief Judge with the award for his immense support for widows in the state.
