Delta 2023: Supporters Protest at PDP Secretariat Over Candidatecy Tussle

The ongoing tussle between Sheriff Oborevwori and Olorogun David Edevbie has reached a new height as aggrieved supporters on Tuesday, besieged the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja.

The protesting supporters of the party echoed their displeasure with the tussle, while declaring their preference for Sheriff Oborevwori.

The protest is coming on the heels of lingering controversy surrounding the governorship candidate of the PDP in Delta State.

Recall that Oborevwori had been declared winner of the governorship primary election ahead of Edevbie in the contest that held in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

However, a Federal High Court in Abuja declared Sheriff Oborevwori ineligible to contest the primary over alleged discrepancies in his certificates.

The Delta State House of Assembly speaker has since appealed his disqualification with the case adjourned till August 19.

But, just over a month after the judgement, Oberevwori’s supporters have stormed the PDP secretariat at Wadata Plaza, to demand an audience with party leaders.

Chanting “no Sheriff no PDP in Delta State”, the protesters persistently refused addressing newsmen unless a member of the PDP National Working Committee addresses them.

During the PDP governorship primary, Oborevwori polled 590 votes to beat Edevbie, who polled 113 votes.

While Oborevwori is the anointed candidate of Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, former governor James Ibori, is said to be the force behind Edevbie, who was his finance commissioner.
