Trafficked women alongside stranded Nigerians have arrived in the west African country from Lebanon, in what could be best termed a rescue attempt.
The women numbering about fifty in the company of nineteen other stranded Nigerians were received by the Federal Government on Sunday, May 24.

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama made the announcement with an official tweet via his verified Twitter handle.

Onyeama was full of praises for the Lebanese Government as well as the Lebanese community in Nigeria for the huge role they played in the entire process that led to the evacuation.
The Minister pointed out that the Lebanese government contributed financially and logistically to the evacuation of 69 Nigerians from the Asian country.
With the financial and logistic support of the Lebanese Government and Lebanese community in Nigeria, 50 trafficked Nigerian girls and 19 stranded Nigerians were successfully evacuated from #Lebanon and arrived Nigeria today.

The contingent comprised of 50 women and girls who were trafficked to Lebanon one way or the other at the different times, and 19 other citizens who were stranded due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Onyeama further poured encomiums on the Lebanese ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Houssam Diad, as well as his Nigerian counterpart, Ambassador Goni Zannabura, Nigerian Ambassador to Lebanon for their role.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian social media space was agog a couple of weeks ago when a Facebook post of a Lebanese man, who put a Nigerian woman on sale for about $1000 surfaced online.
The Lebanese man who described his domestic worker to be clean, active, and with legal documents, put up the 30-year-old Nigerian lady for sale in a Facebook group where he was spotted by a Nigerian digital marketer.
Wael Jerro was reported to authorities in Lebanon and was later arrested following a large outcry from Nigerians, berating his actions.
