Court Can’t Force Lecturers To Teach Students – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has again reacted to the the suit filed against by he Federal Government.

Daily Report recalls that the FG is seeking the Industrial Court to order ASUU to call of its 7-month old strike.

Reacting to the suit, ASUU President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke said it is unfortunate that the union was being dragged to court by the government.

He said this while speaking at a National Town Hall Meeting on Tertiary Education tagged: ‘The Locked Gates of our Citadels – A National Emergency’ in Abuja, on Thursday.

Osodeke stressed that suing the union would further worsen the education system in the country, while echoing the readiness of the union to end the lingering strike.

According to the ASUU president, even if the court forces the lecturers to return to school, they won’t force them to teach with open mind, adding that Osodeke the students would be at the receiving end.

Osedeke also commended the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Pro-Chancellors for stepping in to resolve the issues with the government.

He, therefore, called on parents and students to appeal to the government to do the needful so that the strike would come to an end once and for all, rather than attacking the union.
