The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said it is yet to officially call of its 8-month strike.

According to ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, though there is optimal progress with the union’s negotiations with government, the ongoing strike has not been called off.

Osodeke said this while reacting to reports of the union suspending its strike action following a meeting with members of the leadership of the House of Representatives on Monday.

The ASUU President had earlier said that there is “light at the end of the tunnel” on the issue.

Meanwhile, an ASUU source revealed that there will be briefings at the various zones of the union and a subsequent meeting by the branches between today (Tuesday) and tomorrow (Wednesday).

It added that the National Executive Council of the union will then meet to decide on the suspension of the strike.

Recall that the Court of Appeal last Friday ordered ASUU to suspend the strike before continuing with its appeal against the judgement of the Industrial Court.

While ASUU has not immediately obeyed the court ruling, it has been in talks with the leadership of the House of Representatives, holding multiple meetings.
