WAEC Gives Update on Fire Incident | Daily Report Nigeria

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that there was a fire outbreak at its National Office in Yaba, Lagos State on Wednesday, 26th October.

Giving an update on the incident, the management of the council via a statement signed by the Head, Public Affairs Department, Moyosola Adesina, said the fire occurred in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the statement, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact.

This according to WAEC is due to the timely intervention of the firefighters and other responders.

The statement reads:

“The Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), wishes to inform the general public that there was an early morning fire incident at the WAEC National Office, Yaba, Lagos. It was swiftly contained by a combined team of fire fighters.”

“Thankfully, no life was lost and all important documents and records are intact.”

Daily Report Nigeria reported earlier that there was tension on Wednesday morning in the Yaba area of Lagos State following a fire incident which occurred at the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) building.

The fire was said to have started at about 6.50 am with some person trapped inside the building.

An update by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has it that the fire incident at the headquarters of the West African Examination (WAEC) in Lagos State on Wednesday morning was caused by a power surge.

In a statement made available to newsmen hours after the event, LASEMA noted that seven persons were rescued alive from the fire incident.

Further investigations, according to LASEMA, revealed that the fire started on the 3rd floor of the 12-storey building due to a power surge.

The fire had been safely extinguished as at press time.
