TBT: Senate Recommends Omo-Agege’s Suspension, Prosecution Over Mace

The National Assembly joint ad hoc committee, on Monday July 17, 2018, recommended the immediate suspension of the lawmaker representing Delta Central, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.

The committee recommended that Omo-Agege be suspended for 180 legislative days over an alleged theft of the Senate mace.

Also, the committee recommended that Senator Omo-Agege be prosecuted alongside six other suspects who allegedly accompanied him into the chamber on the day of the incident.

The recommendation was made by the committee investigating the invasion of the Senate after their investigation.

Thugs reportedly led by Omo-Agege had invaded the the Red Chambers on Wednesday April 18, 2018 to disrupt plenary and as well carting away the mace.

The suspects were to be prosecuted for treasonable felony, assault on National Assembly members of staff, conspiracy to steal, and eventual theft of the Senate Mace.

The committee also recommends a total review of the National Assembly’s security architecture.

The recommendation came few months after Senator Omo-Agege appeared before the Senate committee investigating the invasion of the National Assembly.

The committee is also investigating the theft of the Senate Mace, which was earlier recovered by the Police.
