Some youths and elders of Ikun-Akoko in Akoko southwest Local Government Area, have reportedly attacked the palace of the Ondo State’s monarch owing to his conversion to Christianity.
According to the protesters the monarch, Onikun of Ikun, Oba Olokunbola Adedoyin, had refused to perform rituals as demanded by the tradition, adding he was now a “born again Christian.”
The protesters claimed that the monarch’s refusal was responsible for the incessant premature deaths of promising sons and daughters in the community.

They also alleged that important rituals to avert calamities from befalling the town have been neglected since he joined a new religion.
While the protesters matched through some streets of the community, they carried leaves, palm leaves, and placards to announce their displeasure.
They destroyed a petrol station owned by the Oba, according to reports.
On his part, Oba Adedoyin who ascended the throne 19 years ago, said he had been trying his best to attract development to the town.
The monarch added that the protesters threatened to kill him and his son before they razed his petrol station.
The Ikun Monarch further narrating the event said an attendant at the petrol station was inflicted with injuries while three generators valued at N1.5 million naira were vandalised.
However, Police sources confirmed that some persons have been arrested and would be arraigned in court soon.
