Two medical doctors were on Friday kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Ikomita section of the Calabar-Ikom Highway.

According to the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Cross River chapter, their abductors have demanded N100 million as ransom.

Felix Archibong, chairman of NMA in the state, confirmed this in an interview with the newsmen on Saturday, November 19, in Calabar.

Mr Archibong said that the two medical doctors were abducted on Friday alongside two others at Ikomita section of the Calabar-Ikom Highway.

One of the abducted doctors has been identified as Ekpo Etim Egong, a volunteer physician with the General Hospital, Calabar.

The victims were on their way back to Ogoja after attending a workshop in Calabar, the state capital when they were kidnapped.

The gunmen were said to have blocked the highway during the operation and shot sporadically into the air to scare away passers-by and zoomed off immediately they succeeded in abducting seven victims.

According to an eye witness, out of the seven persons kidnapped, three were females and four were males.

The three females were however released later after they were dispossessed of their valuables which include; phones, watches and cash while the four males were taken away into the bush.

The State Commissioner of Police, Sule Balarabe, who confirmed the incident, said his command would do everything humanly possible to secure their release unhurt.

“We are going to comb the forest to secure their release. I assure that the matter will adequately be dealt with.

“I am not just sitting in Calabar to give orders, I am also on ground with my men,” the CP stated.

“We have the cooperation of the locals and I believe we will have positive result. I am on ground with various units.

“We are hitting the nails on its head as I speak, we must make sure we secure the release of the victims unharmed,” he declared.
