Hisbah, the regional police of Northern Nigeria has placed a ban on women from using/possessing mobile gadgets as well as putting on sunglasses in Kuriga Village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
This was disclosed by a concerned individuals who raised alarm over the growing repressive activities of the religious police in the region.

One of the whistleblowers alleged that the outfit had been ‘frustrating the lives of youths in Kuriga and often carry out severe punishment for moral failings’.
“Hisbah is punishing youths for keeping afro hair and sometimes it is accompanied with beating.
“They have also prevented women and girls from using smartphones, claiming that it is used to spread unIslamic behaviours. They are just terrorising us,”
Another resident of the village also added weight to the above claims, saying Hisbah personnel have prohibited women and girls from using sunglasses.
“They also sometimes storm houses where ceremonies are taking place and punish playing of music, dancing and any form of entertainment,” he said.
Hisbah had earlier made headlines for similar activities in other northern states.
First was the shaving off stylish haircuts of young men, arresting people for alleged improper dressing and forcefully seizing tricycles from riders for adorning them with pictures considered to be obscene and against the tenets of Islam in Kano.
Also, stylish haircuts, sagging of trousers, and playing of music at social events by DJs were also banned in Kebbi by the agency established to enforce Sharia law in Northern Nigeria.
