Justice Olukayode Ogundana of Ekiti State High Court has sentenced a farmer, Ajakaiye Toyin to death by hanging for the murder of one Afe Omoniyi, a commercial motorcyclist.
According to report, Toyin had engaged the service of Omonyi on August 23, 2022, to convey him from Agbado-Ekiti to his farm along Ode -Ekiti road.
They agreed on a fare of N150.
But when they got to the farm, Toyin gave the motorcyclist N200 and demanded for a change of N100.
The motorcyclist objected and gave him N50 change.
A fight ensued thereafter which led to the death of the motorcyclist as the convict strangled him to death by tying a rope around his neck and afterwards dug a shallow grave and buried him.
Toyin, who had earlier been detained for stealing goats, was apprehended by passersby who handed him over to the police.
4 witnesses were called upon and 7 exhibits tendered by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Julius Ajibare, who prosecuted the case for the State.
Ajakaiye Toyin was further sentenced to death 4 years after he killed the okada rider.
