COVID-19 Virus Returns to Nigeria

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has stated that the COVID-19 virus has returned to the country with 35 new cases recorded.

This development was realized in the last week of December 2022.

NCDC stated this in a recent post on its website, adding that 22 of the cases were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), 10 in Lagos State, and two in Delta, while one happened in Plateau.

It revealed that the infections were recorded between December 24 and 30, 2022.

Findings disclosed that the new cases increased the nation’s total infections to 266,450 and 3,155 deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2019.

The disease centre stated that 3,451 people were currently down with the virus, while 259,841 people had been treated and discharged nationwide.

It called on Nigerians to disinfect frequently touched surfaces regularly to prevent the spread of the virus and other infectious diseases.

NCDC stressed that vaccines remained one of the best tools to combat the disease.

It further encouraged unvaccinated Nigerians to get vaccinated.
