2023: I Have Diabetes, Hypertension; Tinubu Healthier Than me – Shettima

Kashim Shettima, the vice presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress, has revealed that his principal, Bola Tinubu, is healthier than him.

This is as the former Borno governor brushed aside concerns that the party’s presidential candidate is not healthy enough to rule the country.

However, on a Facebook Live programme, Fashin Baki, hosted by public commentators, Bulama Bukarti, Nasir Zango, Abba Hikima, and Jaafar Jaafar, Shettima revealed that he has diabetes and hypertension.

Stressing that the Tinubu/Shettima ticket was best option for Nigeria, Shettima used their records as former governors as pointer for credibility.

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that Shettima governed Borno State for eight years from 2011 to 2019, while Tinubu governed Lagos for eight years from 1999 to 2007.

Reacting to the concerns raised by various quarters that Tinubu was not strong enough to be president as he often allegedly sought for medical attention abroad, Shettima his principal had been denied proper rest by the rigorous campaigns.

Tinubu has often been caught speaking out of sorts, and sometimes display shaky hands which has been attributed as a symptom of Parkinson’s Disease.

Shettima argues that once his principal gets enough rest and sleep, he will be refreshed and fit to do the job required of him as president.

Mentioning that former Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Daniel Arap Moi of the US, Algeria, and Kenya respectively led their countries through economic prosperity while on wheelchairs, Shettima said;

“Let me tell you clearly that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hale and hearty. Politics aside, he is physically and mentally fit to be Nigerian president.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is even healthier than me as I have diabetes and hypertension, which he has none. Even the early Parkinson’s disease people talked about is just lack of sleep.”

“Leadership is not like unskilled labour of carrying bags of cement,” Mr Shettima added. “It’s more of a mental work than physical.”

“The most important thing is his records and intellectual faculty which I believe is sound enough to move Nigeria forward.”

Tinubu is one among 18 candidates seeking to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari as president when the latter completes his second term in office on May 29, 2023.

The presidential election is billed for February 25, 2023.
