A new poll conducted by Nigerians Decide indicates that Peter Obi of the Labour Party is the preferred candidate for the 2023 presidential election.

The poll by the independent research think-tank based in the United States of America was concluded on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Obi was said to have garnered 1,856,537 votes to lead his closest rivals Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who got 1,539,568 votes.

Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) garnered 1,486,401 votes, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) polled 12,907 votes.

The four candidates are widely regarded as the leading contestants in the forthcoming polls.

According to the US-based organization, the online opinion poll was launched on December 6, 2022, and concluded on Tuesday, January 31.

The agency’s project director, Rosalynn Carte said:

“We conduct opinion polls on matters of public policy, like public engagement and participation in a few democratic exercise.”

A similar poll conducted by NOI Polls and commissioned by ANAP Foundation in September 2022, proved that Obi will win the election if it was held at the time.

The poll depicted the 2023 election as a three-horse between Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Obi.

The organizations, however, described Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party as a ‘dark horse’ after coming fourth in the poll.

“The results showed a significant lead for Mr Peter Obi with 21% of voters proposing to vote for him if the presidential election were to be conducted today; and 13% each proposing to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who are both tied in second place.

“Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso was a distant fourth with 3% of voters proposing to vote for him,” a statement by ANAP foundation announcing the result of the poll shows.

2023 Presidency Poll Won by Peter Obi Was Rigged – Sowore

Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the Africa Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore has declared the online poll won by Labour Party’s Peter Obi as unreliable.

Sowore termed the poll conducted by Atedo Peterside as a rigged affair, saying individuals who rig elections can as well rig online polls

“Opinion Poll Riggers are not different from Election Riggers!

“@AtedoPeterside should not be conducting opinion polls, he lacks the credibility to conduct any polls, he’s one of Mr. Peter Obi’s campaign Managers, this is like Lagos NURTW/@Mc Oluomo conducting an opinion poll that states that @officialABAT Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the 2023 Presidential election, you already know the results. Stop fooling Nigerians. Stop rigging opinion polls!
