More than 500 Christian clerics on Monday declared their support for the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Kashim Shettima.

This is coming barely 11 days before the 2023 Presidential election,

The clerics made this known at a stakeholders conference in Abuja in collaboration with the APC Presidential Campaign Council Stakeholders Special Duties Directorate.

The Christian Leaders under the aegis of The Clerics Congress of Nigeria (TCCON) linked their backing owing to
Tinubu and Shettima’s track record of positive leadership and development.

The Clerics led by Archbishop Ali John Ali and Bishop Timothy Cheren described Tinubu and Shettima as competent, highly capacitated, and visionary with a pedigree of progressive leadership and Nation building.

In a speech read on behalf of the clerics, Bishop Cheren said the Tinubu/Shettima ticket was the best choice for Nigeria and Nigerians as they were capable of providing solutions to the myriad of problems confronting the country.

Cheren said:

“Today we gather here to take a decision which is very vital to the immediate future of our country.

“As you are all aware, the general elections are coming up soon in a matter of days beginning with the presidential elections.

“As we count down to the elections, many people have taken their positions as it concerns their preferred candidates for the election.

“This includes opinion leaders, leaders of thought, religious leaders, traditional, regional and Community leaders etc.

“This is not strange in the issue of governance and politics as the expression of preferences and endorsements are not strange in any given political evolution.

“That is why we are here today as a body of Christian leaders across the nation under the auspices of the Cleric Congress of Nigeria, a body comprised of Christian leaders, Arch Bishops, Bishops, Apostles, Evangelists, prophets and pastors representing different denominations to make a clear statement on our preferred presidential candidate that will change the trajectory of leadership in Nigeria at this critical moment of our national journey.

“After a cursory look at all the presidential aspirants, and without any dint of sentiment attached, we have found one candidate suitable to deliver the required result needed to take our nation out of our present predicament and usher in the required development needed to take us to the next level. That candidate without any shadow of a doubt is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
