Peter Obi: Labour Party Issues INEC 3-Day Ultimatum Over BVAs | Daily Report Nigeria

Peter Obi’s Labour Party has issued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) a 3-day ultimatum to allow its lawyers and agents inspect the Bimodal Voter Authentication System, BVAS.

The ultimatum by the LP also called on INEC to allow it access other electoral materials used for the February 25th presidential election or face the Obidient movement.

The ultimatum was declared by the Chief spokesman of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council (LPPCC), Tanko Yunusa on Saturday.

In an interview with Tribune, Yunusa said INEC was choosing what court order to obey, adding that the electoral umpire has gone ahead to commence reconfiguring the BVAS machine despite the court order the party to inspect them.

Yunusa feared that the move by INEC would tamper with the Presidential Election result for which the LP requested for inspection of the machines.

He said;

“They have begun configuring the BVAS machines. They denied us, and have not allowed us to have access to the BVAS Machines at all, these are the issues.

“And we are saying that if they do not allow us we would be forced to call all our people to come out and mobilise ourselves to go to the INEC office and demand the rights of the people based on the last election.

“They are disregarding the court order and they have gone ahead to do what they want to do based on the order of the court that gives them the room to say that they can reconfigure.

“They refused to obey the court order that says they should give us the right to inspect the BVAS before they re-configure the machine.

“They took the matter to the court. The Court said they should grant access to the Labour Party to inspect the election materials and also gives them the right to reconfigure the BVAS.”
