Fire on Saturday razed down the popular Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, destroying goods worth millions of Naira.

The fire outbreak began around 2pm on Saturday, March 18, 2023, with officers of the fire service deployed to the scene of the incident.

The development comes days after the fire incident, which occurred at the Monday market in Maiduguri on February 26, where several shops were also destroyed.

The market is the second largest one in the city after the burnt Monday market.

Speaking on the incident, Abdu Umar, the Borno commissioner of police, said security operatives were also on the ground.

Umar said about five firefighting trucks were deployed to the scene to contain the situation.

Several traders were also seen struggling to get out some of their property from the rubble, while others watched helplessly as the fire continued to ravage more structures.
