According to results declared by the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, Abiodun polled 276,298 votes ahead of Lade Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party, who scored 262,383 votes, while Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress polled 94,745 votes to come third.
Meanwhile, before Abiodun was announced as the winner of the poll, PDP collation agent, Sunkanmi Oyejide, cautioned the electoral umpire against declaring the winner for the election.
Oyejide called for INEC to consider a clause in the Electoral Act (amended) that orders the commission to declare a rerun in the case of total rejected votes outnumbering the lead margin.
This followed a declaration by the Sagamu collation officer, Prof. Oluwagboyega Afolabi, who said that 15 polling units were canceled as a result of violence.
