Chimamanda Adichie Releases Mama’s Sleeping Scarf

Popular Award winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has made her entry into children’s literature with a book titled “Mama’s Sleeping Scarf”.

Chimamanda took to her social media pages to announce the release of her maiden piece for children.

Announcing the book in a video on Friday, Chimamanda said;

“So delighted to announce that I’ve written my first children’s book, Mama’s Sleeping Scarf. It is a celebration of the joy in ordinary family life.

“The illustrations by the immensely talented @joelle_avelino are so beautiful, so apt. It will be published by @harpercollinsch (UK) and @aaknopf (US) on 5th September.”

According to the author, the book shows how “delightful the ordinary every day things can be,” saying it is based on “a day in the life of my daughter”.

Ann-Janine Murtagh, executive publisher of the Chimamanda’s latest literary piece, praised the forthcoming children’s book.

Murtagh described Chimamanda Adichie as “one of the most important voices in literature today and we feel honoured to publish her first children’s book on the HarperCollins list.”

The publisher described the book as “a tender and joyful exploration of family life.

“Exquisitely written with compelling simplicity, this is a heartfelt homage to family love. With beautiful illustrations from Joelle Avelino, it will be a picture book treasured across the generations.”

The publication of “Mama’s Sleeping Scarf”, which will be done by Harper Collins comes almost a decade since her last work Americanah.
