The Delta State Government has announced that public and private nursery schools can now resume for their first term, following the closure of schools over the COVID-19 outbreak in the state.
This was contained in a statement by the State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Patrick Ukah, in Asaba on Thursday, saying the schools will resume for the 2020/2021 academic session with effect from Monday, November 9, 2020.
Ukah revealed that the resumption of nursery schools was reviewed from the earlier scheduled January 2021 date due to the straightened Covid-19 curve, upon advice from the state Ministry of Health.

He stated that the approved calendar for the 2020/2021 academic session also applied to all nursery schools in the state.
The Commissioner further stated that recommended Covid-19 protocols applicable to schools have been sent to the Association of Private Schools Owners for onward transmission to all its members, Heads of Public Primary Schools and other relevant stakeholders.
While cautioning school heads to take extra care in strict observance of the Covid-19 protocols, Mr Ukah warned that under no circumstances must pupils be kept in school beyond the stipulated school hours and also advised against extra classes for the pupils.
He urged parents and guardians to promptly pick their children at the end of school hours, warning of severe sanctions for school heads who flout the conditions outlined for the resumption.
