According to a WTO announcement last week, the meeting was fixed to hold on Monday November 9.

The memo signed by the head of selection committee reads;
“It has come to my attention that for reasons including the health situation and current events, delegations will not be in a position to take a formal decision on 9 November.”

“I am therefore postponing this meeting until further notice during which period I will continue to undertake consultations with delegations,” he added.

The former Nigerian Finance Minister had won the election process by polling 104 out of a possible 164 votes ahead of South Korean Trade Minister, Yoo Myung-hee.

Her announcement as new DG of the WTO was delayed following an opposition of her emergence by the United States, preferring Yoo Myung-hee instead.

Okonjo-Iweala will become the first African woman and African to lead the World Trade Organization since it’s formation in 1995 if she eventually wins.
