Former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reiterated his position of one’s political ambition not being worth the blood of a citizen.

The United Nation’s peace envoy stated this on Friday in the heat of the presidential elections in the United States.

The former Vice President took to his official Facebook page to school other politicians, saying ‘it is better to gain honor at the cost of losing power, than to gain power at the cost of losing honour.’

He wrote;
“Nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any citizen. It is better to gain honour at the cost of losing power, than to gain power at the cost of losing honour.

“At any point in time, the power of love should matter more than the love of power. This is my philosophy. I have lived it. It has brought great peace to both my beloved nation and I.

“And I recommend it to all leaders facing challenging situations, either in government, or at the polls, or even in their dealings with fellow political actors,” he added.

The former Bayelsa Deputy Governor and Governor was declared the hero of African democracy in 2015, when he conceded defeat to Muhammadu Buhari despite having the chance to contest the election results.

He has since gone on to oversee electioneering processes in the African continent.
