It had insisted that the LP presidential candidate had feared that the election was a religious war.
The audio went on to claim that the cleric stated that he believed Obi’s assertion.
However, the spokesman of the party took to his social media to counter negative assumptions deduced so far from the clip.
Okonkwo claimed political criminals were trying to spin the conversation as if Obi was making a religious statement.
He said:
“Political criminals are trying to spin the conversation as if Obi was making a religious statement.
“Our attention has been drawn to the publication of this audio tape of a private conversation between @peterobigregory and Bishop Oyedepo. It is not surprising that these political criminals are trying to spin the conversation as if Obi was making a religious statement.”
Alleged Leaked Audio with Peter Obi: Oyedepo Speaks
The Founder of Living Faith Church, David Oyedepo has reacted to the alleged leaked audio tape between him and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Oyedepo made the reaction while preaching on Sunday at the church’s headquarters in Ogun State.
The Bishop said he has never campaigned for any politician during any election in the country.
Reports about the duo’s conversation regarding the just concluded election occupied the social media space after an online news outlet made the publication.
The audio claimed Obi was appealing to the Bishop to help solicit votes from Christians in the South-West.
Obi had allegedly told the Bishop presidential election was a religious war as such he needed votes in that region.
The audio voice had said:
“Daddy, I need you to speak to your people in the South-West and Kwara, the Christians in the South-West and Kwara. This is a religious war. Like I keep saying: if this works, you people will never regret the support.”
However, reacting to the controversy Oyedepo said he never spoke to any group of people on behalf of any politician.
He said:
“Nobody had ever told me what to say in this world. No. I have never campaigned for anybody or speak on anybody’s behalf and I will not do that till I go to heaven.
“There is no (political) party in this country that didn’t come to me for prayers and advice. I advised them, some, they didn’t take. Those who chose to take it, they see results; those who said no, they are going about it (laughs). If you still come again, I will still tell you, it doesn’t change.”

Nigerians React as Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika Spends N12bn to Buy 10 Firefighting Trucks
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed on Sunday that his ministry spent N12 billion to acquire 10 firefighting trucks.
Sirika disclosed on Sunday via a post on his Twitter account.
In the post Sirika said he commissioned ten firefighting trucks for the Federal Airports Authority, FAAN.
He further noted that the last time the FAAN bought new trucks was 15 years ago.
“Just commissioned 10 Firefighting trucks, total cost of over 12Bn Naira. More to come in due course. Safety has been the Buhari focus in Aviation, since 2015. Hitherto FAAN has not bought new trucks in 15 years,” Sirika tweeted.
The N12 billion paid to acquire the trucks means Sirika’s ministry used N1.2 billion to buy each of the trucks that are mostly used in Africa and Arab countries.
However, the cost of the firefighting trucks has led to criticism from some Nigerians.
Reacting to Sirika’s post, some said one truck shouldn’t cost as much as N1 billion.
According to a lawyer with username, @MikeInyeneesq, the Twitter user wrote: “Last minute clearing of Government funds. Datti was right, inflated government contract is another form of corruption. 12Bn naira should be able to build you a firefighting vehicle plant.”
Another Nigerian, with username, @bellotabdullahi, said: “10 or 100? Are they flying firefighting trucks? Do they foresee and forestall accidents? N1.2Bn per truck?! I want to believe is a typo if not pls @officialEFCC beam your searchlight here!”
Also commenting on the truck’s cost is a user with the account, @Valchekwas
He wrote, I spent the last hours researching how much fire trucks cost; the expensive high-end trucks cost $650,000 (which Nigeria never gets the best of, I can bet these are used trucks too).
10th NASS Leadership Should Be Open Not Zoned – Ndume
Lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Ali Ndume, has said that the 10th National Assembly’s leadership should be open rather than zoned to particular geographical region in Nigeria.
Ndume, stated this when he made an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.
He noted that he is waiting on his party, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to make a decision on the leadership of the incoming Senate and House of Representatives.
With more than 55 Senate seats out of 109 and more than 160 out of 360 House of Representatives seats, the APC won the majority of the legislative seats during the elections.
Many APC chieftains and legislative member-elect have expressed interest in the highly coveted positions in the red and green chambers.
However, Ndume said the time is not yet ripe for him to be the Senate President though the constitution does not stop him from running.
He said that his party produced the President-Elect, Bola Tinubu from the South-West zone and the Vice-President-Elect, Kashim Shettima from the North-East does not stop lawmakers from the two zone from aspiring to the leadership of the incoming 10th National Assembly.
“Of course, if I say I want to contest and the party say, ‘No, it’s not fair for the Senate President to come from the North or the North-East, do we then now say that we want to contest against the wish of the party which we did at one time and the aftermath was a bit clumsy and we don’t want to have a repetition of that?” Ndume asked.
“For me, the leadership of the National Assembly should be open in the first instance.
“The Senate President is not supposed to be a regional President; it’s a Senate President of the Nigerian Senate.
“We have 109 senators. The leadership emergence is not clearly stated. Section 50 of the constitution states that the Senate President shall be elected among the members.”

Presidential Election: Kwankwaso Accuses INEC of Fraud
Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) in the 2023 election has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of fraud.
Kwankwaso claimed INEC fraudulently allocated votes to the President-elect, Bola Tinubu who was the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the February 25 election.
The former Kano State Governor made the accusation in an interview with BBC Hausa Service.
He stressed that Tinubu could not have won because Nigerians were no more interested in the APC.
To Kwankwaso, Nigerians now preferred his party which he claimed has a bright future with “big politicians” trooping in.
He said:
“Another interesting thing is that more people, particularly big politicians, are seriously indicating interest in our party, and they are willing to make necessary contributions to move the party forward. Take a look at our rivals, particularly the PDP.
“They are in a serious crisis, particularly as it concerns its leaders. In Kano State, some thought PDP will be of help to them, or game changer, but they were disappointed woefully. Same with the APC.
“All these votes you see INEC mentioned were fraudulently allocated to its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. The truth is that Nigerians don’t like APC anymore, hence our party is the one that has the future.”
